K9 Drug Detection Dog serving Interior Alaska

Meet Naja, a 7-year-old, Belgian Malinois, serving as a single-purpose drug detection K9 in Interior Alaska. Naja has been a K9 trooper for five years and assigned to Inv. Heinbaugh for the last two. Naja loves to play with toys and do training searches. K9 Naja used to be afraid of water, but after some training, she has come to love it. Now one of her favorite activities in the summer is playing catch at a local lake.

The funding for K9 Naja was secured by a partnership with Tanana Chiefs Conference (TCC) and the Department of Public Safety. Both the State Troopers and TCC have a commitment to the people of Interior Alaska to stop the flow of dangerous drugs into the community and the surrounding Villages.
