Deja Jackson and the Bethel Regional High School Lady Warriors capped a successful weekend of basketball action on Saturday by grinding out a 59-37 victory over Seward in the consolation finals of the annual Dean Cummings Memorial Basketball Tournament.

The 12-point win gave Bethel a fourth-place finish in the final team standings.

The Lady Warriors suffered a tough loss in the first round of the eight-team tournament on Thursday. Hutchinson hit a couple of crucial fourth-quarter baskets and then held on to take a 43-39 victory in the opening round of play.

Bethel roared back, however. The Lady Warriors defeated Unalaska by a 46-40 margin in the consolation semifinals. The win vaulted BRHS into the consolation finals against Seward, which had downed North Pole in its semifinal bout.

Hutchison won the girl’ tournament on Saturday afternoon by defeating Nome, 50-39.

Jackson was named to the all-tournament team at the end of the event.
