House Honors Community Health Aides

The Alaska House of Representatives has passed House Bill 78, which designates September 10th as Alaska Community Health Aide Appreciation Day. The bill recognizes the invaluable contributions made by community health aides in providing healthcare services to Alaska’s rural and remote communities.

The bill was introduced by Representative CJ McCormick (D – Bethel).

“I wanted to express my gratitude for the hard work and dedication shown by community health aides and acknowledge that their contributions are often overlooked despite being critical to the health and well-being of Alaska’s communities.” Stated Rep. McCormick. “I’m proud to move forward the efforts started by my predecessor Former Representative Tiffany Zulkosky (D-Bethel) and carry it across the finish line for rural Alaska.”

Community health aides are often the first point of contact for individuals seeking medical assistance in Alaska’s rural areas, and they play a crucial role in ensuring that these communities have access to basic healthcare services. They are highly trained professionals who provide a range of services, including first aid, health education, and preventive care.

By establishing September 10th as Alaska Community Health Aide Appreciation Day, the state is acknowledging the important work done by these dedicated professionals. It is an opportunity to recognize their contributions and show our gratitude for the tireless work they do every day to keep Alaska’s communities healthy.

The bill passed unanimously and will now go before the Senate. The Alaska House Majority hopes that this bill will serve as a reminder of the important work being done by community health aides and inspire others to support and celebrate their contributions to Alaska’s health care system.
