The Alaska State Troopers received a report that an adult male had been stabbed in Scammon Bay on April 7, 2022, at around 2:00 pm. The wounded man, 35-year-old Scammon Bay resident Cedric Yunak died at the clinic while being treated for stab wounds. Alaska State Troopers from Hooper Bay and St. Mary’s responded to Scammon Bay. A preliminary investigation determined that Cedric’s brother, 37-year-old Scammon Bay resident Max Yunak, had stabbed him. Max was detained by Scammon Bay Village Police Officers and then arrested by responding Troopers. Max was remanded on charges of Murder I. The Alaska State Troopers are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal stabbing. Cedric’s remains were transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy. Next of kin has been notified.
