Ayaprun Elitnaurvik Immersion School students in Qungucuar Cleveland’s 2nd grade class went on a field trip to harvest beach grass in Bethel earlier this October. The students had a great time learning how to pick grasses that can be used to make baskets, totes, and mats. The grass is called taperrnaat and it grows along the coast and is gathered in the fall time. Learning about taperrnaat is part of Yuuyaraq, the Yup’ik Way of Life. photo by Kelly Lincoln
