The Bethel Regional High School Warriors Wrestling team hosted the Great Alaska Conference varsity wrestling regionals tournament last weekend. The top two individuals in each bracket in this division will head to the state tournament to represent their schools and conference.
Wrestlers from Akiachak, Chevak, Emmonak, Kotlik, Kwethluk, Mountain Village, Napaskiak, Nunapitchuk, Quinhagak, Scammon Bay, St. Mary’s, Tuluksak, and Tuntutuliak joined the Warriors at the WarriorDome for the event.
Unfortunately, wrestlers from Alakanuk and Mountain Village were not able to make it due to weather conditions.
The tournament presented Outstanding Wrestler awards. Laney Green of Chevak and Jackson Iverson of Bethel were honored with this award. The Academic Award for the girls was won by the St. Mary’s Lady Eagles with a 3.61 GPA.
The Bethel Warriors girls and boys teams both took first place in the team standings. Coming in second for the girls were the Lady Hawks of Napaskiak. Unalaska took 2nd for the boys. In third place were the Lady Eagles of St. Mary’s and the Chevak Comets.
The state wrestling tournament will take place at the Alaska Airlines Center in Anchorage, December 20-21, 2024. It is hosted by the Alaska Schools Activities Association (ASAA) and the Anchorage School District. ASAA is the statewide nonprofit organization established to direct, develop and support Alaska’s high school interscholastic sports, academic and fine arts activities since 1956.
