The Bethel City Council has four open seats: three 2-year term seats and one 1-year term seat. Three seats have terms ending October 2026 and one seat has a term ending 2025.
The following five candidates have been certified for the October 1, 2024 Municipal Election.
Pamela Conrad, WG Anaruk, Alicia Miner, Rose “Sugar” Henderson, and Danny Suiter.
Current city council members Patrick Snow and Sophie Swope did not file for re-election. Council member Beth Hessler tendered her resignation effective October 8th, 2024 with one year remaining on her term.
The only incumbent up for re-election is current Mayor, Rose “Sugar” Henderson.
The certified candidate receiving the fourth highest votes of the qualified voters in the City of Bethel’s October 1, 2024, Regular Election will be elected to fill the remainder of Council Member Hessler term. The candidates who receive the 3 highest votes will fill the 2-year seats.
Declaration of Candidacy packets were due on August 20th. The deadline for registering to vote, or to update your voter registration information for the October 1, 2024, Election, is September 1, 2024. Go to voterregistration.alaska.gov to register online.
Early and Absentee Voting will be available September 16th at 300 Chief Eddie Hoffman Highway, 8:00a-5:00p. The deadline for absentee by mail applications is September 21st. The electronic ballot application deadline is September 24th. The polling locations for precincts 1 and 2 will be at the Yupiit Piciryarait Cultural Center from 8am-8pm on election day, October 1st.
