Fisherman rescued from bay

Alaska State Troopers and Alaska Wildlife Troopers responded to a report of a fisherman in distress who had been swept out into Resurrection Bay from the McDonald’s campground beach in Seward on May 29, 2021, at approximately 0937 hours. A 19-year-old male was fishing in waders and stepped into a drop-off before drifting approximately 100 yards out into Resurrection Bay. The male was not wearing a life vest or personal flotation device at the time of the incident. Witnesses stated that the male appeared to be going under the water until managing to remove his waders and swim back to shallow water where he was assisted out of the water. The male was located approximately 1 mile out on the flats due to low tide and was assisted by AST and AWT back to the campground. The Alaska State Troopers and Wildlife Troopers would like to encourage everyone fishing or recreating on or near the water to always wear a life jacket or personal floatation device.
