First National Bank Alaska continued its title sponsorship of the Alaska School Activities Association (ASAA) with a $75,000 donation for the 2018-19 school year. The bank also committed to another $75,000 for the 2019-20 school year, marking 30 years of support for the organization.
ASAA’s mission is “directing, developing and supporting Alaska’s high school interscholastic sports, academic and fine arts activities” in grades 9-12 across the state. The organization is responsible for sanctioning 36 activities ranging from fall, winter and spring sports, to music, art, drama, debate, language and student government.
“There’s no doubt that some of Alaska’s future leaders were among the more than 27,000 students who participated in ASAA activities last year,” said First National Executive Vice President Cheri Gillian. “The lessons they learn now about the power of working together toward a common goal will be invaluable as they guide Alaska. And it’s one reason we’ve supported ASAA these many years.”
Alaskan-owned and -operated since 1922, First National proudly meets the financial needs of Alaskans with ATMs and branches in 18 communities throughout the state. In 2018, Alaska Business readers voted the bank the “Best of Alaska Business” in the Best Place to Work category for the third year in a row and as best Corporate Citizen for the second year in a row. In January 2018, MSN.com named First National the most admired company in the state and, in September, it was selected as one of the “Best Banks to Work For” by American Banker. The Alaska Chamber awarded the Rita Sholton Large Business of the Year Award to First National in October.
