Fairbanks grand jury manslaughter indictment

Yesterday (Aug. 31st, 2022), a grand jury indicted Samantha Pearson on a true bill for one count of manslaughter and one count of misconduct involving a controlled substance.

Alaska State Troopers reported to a single motor vehicle accident in Fairbanks on June 26, 2022. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, Adam Sakkinen, was transported to the nearest hospital. Sakkinen was ultimately removed from life support and declared deceased on July 07, 2022.

Drug related paraphernalia was found in the vehicle during the on-scene investigation. Further investigation revealed Sakkinen had received a combination of heroin and fentanyl from Samantha Pearson. Lab reports confirmed a high level of fentanyl in Sakkinen’s blood.

The charges in the indictment are only allegations and are not evidence of guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the prosecution must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
