
The Emmonak Huskies are the 2021 Yukon River Conference Mixed 6 volleyball champions and will be representing the Lower Yukon School District at the state tournament.
The Yukon River Conference championships were hosted by the St. Mary’s Eagles, games took place on November 18-19, 2021.
Eight teams participated in the event. Joining the Eagles were squads from Russian Mission, Marshall/Nunam Iqua, Mountain Village, Kotlik, Emmonak, Alakanuk, and Scammon Bay.
Opening games were between top-seeded Emmonak vs. Kotlik, Alakanuk vs. Russian Mission, St. Mary’s vs. Mountain Village, and Marshall/Nunam Iqua vs. Scammon Bay. Emmonak, Alakanuk, St. Mary’s, and Scammon Bay won the first round and advanced to the semifinal round.
Emmonak defeated Alakanuk and St. Mary’s defeated Scammon Bay to advance to the championship round. Emmonak was undefeated and took top honors. The team from Marshall/Nunam Iqua took home the Sportsmanship trophy. The Academic Award was won by the St. Mary’s Eagles with their GPA of 3.75.
