Emmonak Huskies dominate on first day of State Mixed Volleyball tournament

The Emmonak Huskies Mixed 6 team defeated the Hoonah Braves during the opening round of the Mixed 6 2021 State Volleyball Tournament on Thursday, December 2, hosted by the Alaska School Activities Association and Dimond High School. They also defeated the Nuiqsut Trappers in the second round scoring 25-13 in the best out of 3 sets. Nathaniel Jensen (first game) and Nafre Bagongan (second game) were named the Players of the Game.

The Toksook Bay Nelson Islanders played against the Shaktoolik Wolverines in the first game. They lost both sets. The Islander’s Asa Pitka and Summer Cartier were named the Players of the Game.

The Kalskag Grizzlies also lost their games to the Tanalian Lynx (Port Alsworth). Aurrianna Peterson of the Grizzlies was honored with the Player of the Game award. Toksook and Kalskag will play in the consolation bracket, Friday, Dec. 3rd. Shismaref will play Tanalian, and Emmonak will play Shaktoolik in the quarterfinals.

On the 2A side, the Chevak Lady Comets lost to Tri-Valley, 25-6, 25-18, and 25-20. Their game which originally set for the afternoon took place earlier in the day. The Comets will play the Dillingham Wolverines in the consolation bracket.
