The 2019 Legislative Session has officially begun! I am excited to begin work in our Capital City on behalf of District 38 and the state of Alaska. Although conversations to determine organization in the House continue and committee assignments remain in flux, my office is open and here to work for you. Please reach out if you would like to schedule a meeting, phone call, or need support with a state agency.

During the interim, I had the opportunity to meet with tribal and community leaders, learning about the issues that matter most to many in our district. Numerous residents and leaders expressed the need for increased public safety resources, how education cuts are affecting local schools, and the strong desire for economic development throughout our region. As the Legislature continues to work toward budget solutions, I believe we must protect essential services – like public safety, education, health and social services – that are vitally important to rural Alaska. These services and programs fund employment for teachers, health aides, and public safety; ensuring our communities are safe, healthy, and vibrant.

Finally, last week I met with the new Governor and Lt. Governor to discuss these and other issues, including the importance of meaningful engagement with Alaska tribes and rural communities.

There’s a lot of work in front of us this session, but I look forward to representing our district and partnering with you on behalf of this region we love to call “home.”
