Current construction projects under contract not impacted by FY2020 Capital Budget

In response to recent concerns over construction projects shutting down due to the lack of a capital budget, Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities Commissioner John MacKinnon issued this statement:

“Projects that are in construction this year will not be impacted by the current capital budget impasse. The federal funding and state match for these projects were authorized in past budgets, however without an adequately funded FY2020 capital budget the state fails to capture nearly one billion dollars in federal transportation and infrastructure dollars which would place into jeopardy future projects.”

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities oversees 239 airports, 10 ferries serving 35 communities, over 5,600 miles of highway and 720 public facilities throughout the state of Alaska. The mission of the department is to “Keep Alaska Moving through service and infrastructure.”
