Councilman Shabani resigned

The City of Bethel posted a Notice of Vacancy in Office on Thursday, May 10, 2018 due to the resignation of council member Naim Shabani.
On May 8, 2018, the Bethel City Council accepted Council Member Naim Shabani’s letter of resignation who cited work-related issues, leaving a vacancy in office until October 2018. The City Clerk’s office has extended the deadline to June 4th, 2018 for this opening.
The City Council will appoint a new council member during their June 5th, 2018 budget meeting. To qualify for office, a candidate must be a qualified voter for the City of Bethel and have been a resident of Bethel at least one year.
Council applicant Mary Nanuwak was the only person that applied in time for the original deadline of May 18th before the May 22nd, 2018 regular city council meeting.
Council however, did not cast enough votes to confirm Nanuwak and thereby extended the deadline for more applicants to apply.
