City of Bethel to invite Alaska’s legislators to attend the Cama’i Festival

The City of Bethel Council passed an action memorandum that would authorize the Mayor of Bethel to invite Alaskan Legislators to attend the 2025 Cama’i Festival that is scheduled for March 28-30. Action memo 25-07 was introduced on February 11th, 2025 by Mayor Rose Sugar Henderson.

“Representative Nellie Unangiq Jimmie contacted the Mayor and requested she invite members of the Legislature to attend the Cama’i Dance Festival,” says the memo. “She felt that this invitation would provide an excellent opportunity for legislators to witness firsthand the rich cultural tapestry of our region and help us garner broader support for cultural presentation in our legislative endeavors.”

The item passed unanimously. The AM will authorize the Mayor to send a letter of invitation on behalf of the City Council members to the Alaskan Legislature and ask them to extend the invitation to their fellow senators and representatives.
