City of Bethel priorities for 2026 capital budget

The City of Bethel council will be considering a resolution that sets the priorities for the 2026 State of Alaska Capital Budget during their November 12th, 2024 regular meeting.

Proposed Resolution 24-13 lists three City of Bethel Priorities: Expansion of the Bethel Community Center $3,000,000; Planning, permitting, design of Cargo Port East Wall $3,000,000; and Planning, permitting, design for Public Works Building $3,000,000.

The City of Bethel is proactively pursuing funds from Federal and State agencies, as well as private funding sources, states the resolution, and that the City partners with other entities, such as the local tribe, Orutsararmiut Native Council, to work collaboratively to meet resident and visitor needs.

“Bethel City government relies on various taxes and interest, charges for services, and licenses/permit fees to pay for major maintenance needs…as a hub community for 30,000 people living in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta region, the City of Bethel supports projects and expenditures that benefit tens of thousands of Alaskans who do not reside in Bethel City limits,” says Res. 24-13.

The item is on council’s consent agenda and is introduced by Acting City Manager Lori Strickler.
