City council votes for mayor, vice mayor Mayor appoints council members to committees and commissions

The City of Bethel Council members elected a new mayor and vice mayor during a special meeting on October 14th, 2024. Council members nominated Mark Springer and Rose “Sugar” Henderson for the office of mayor. Henderson received the higher number of votes 6-1 and was elected as Mayor. Henderson has served as Mayor of Bethel before, she was elected in 2022 and served a one-year mayoral term.

For the election for vice-mayor, Teresa Keller was nominated and elected as vice-mayor.

Newly elected Mayor Rose Henderson made the following committee and commission appointments:

Planning Commission – Rose Henderson; Finance Committee – WG Anaruk; Public Safety and Transportation Commission – Teresa Keller; Public Works Committee – Mark Springer; Port Commission – Alicia Miner; Community Parks and Recreation Committee – Mikayla Miller; Community Action Grant Committee – Pamela Conrad; and Yuut Elitnaurviat Representative – Rose Henderson.

Council also approved Action Memorandum 24-29 that directs administration to negotiate and execute a contract with the one company that received the highest score from the proposal review committee for the purchase and installation of a security fence and gates around the new Streets and Roads Division shop on First Avenue. The item passed unanimously.
