
Bethel City council member Mary “Beth” Hessler has submitted a letter of resignation dated July 2nd, 2024, effective October 8, 2024. There will be one year remaining in the council term for the seat vacated by council member Hessler’s resignation.
In accordance with the Bethel Municipal Code 2.04.130, a successor of the remaining term shall be elected and serve out the remainder of the term of the vacated council seat.
The certified candidate receiving the fourth highest votes of the qualified voters in the City of Bethel’s October 1, 2024, Regular Election will be elected to fill the remainder of Council Member Hessler term.
The City Clerk’s Office is directed to include the vacancy in office, and the election of the one-year term with the City of Bethel Notice of Election.
Bethel City Council will be taking action on this during their July 23rd, 2024 regular council meeting via Action Memo 24-20 to accept the resignation of council member Hessler and directing the City Clerk to place the one-year term on the 2024 City of Bethel Regular Election ballot.
“I am needing to resign my position on council due to changing circumstances that make it more difficult to spend the time needed to do a good job on the council,” wrote Hessler in her resignation letter to the Clerk’s Office. “It has been a pleasure and an honor to serve on the Bethel city council the last 3 years.”
