The Chevak Lady Comets representing the Western Conference competed at last weekend’s 2A State Volleyball tournament hosted by the Alaska Schools Activities Association and Palmer High School.
Players for Chevak included seniors Avryl Bell, Hannah Pingayak, Michelle Atcherian, Mary Nash, and Eva Jakaylee Boyscout; and Ayaginaraq Matchian, Krissy Imgalrea, Julia Boyscout, Abigail Tunutmoak, Addie Agimuk, and Sharai Pingayak. They are coached by Allan Antiniero and assistant coach Nicole Pingayak.
Teams on the 2A bracket included Tri-Valley, Birchwood Christian, Dillingham, Wrangell, Susitna Valley, Craig, Chevak, and New Stuyahok.
The Lady Comets played the team from New Stuyahok for their first game. They lost 25-10, 25-22, and 25-12. Their next game was with Susitna Valley on the consolation bracket. Su-Valley was victorious 25-8, 25-11, and 25-17.
The Craig Lady Panthers were the tournament champions. They defeated Tri-Valley in two separate games for the championship. Tri-Valley had only two losses and that was to the Craig team.

The Mixed 6 tournament took place simultaneously in the same gym on a different court. Fans flocked to Palmer from all over the state to cheer on their teams.
