Schools in the Lower Yukon School District have been busy with basketball and players have been using masks during the game. The Chevak Comets hosted the Scammon Bay Eagles boys and girls teams last Tuesday and Wednesday, March 9 and 10 for basketball. The Lady Comets defeated the Lady Eagles 52 to 19 on Tuesday. High scorers were April Utteryuk who scored 10 for the Eagles and Ashley Ulroan scored 15 for the Comets. The Scammon Bay boys team defeated the Comets boys 54 to 40 on Wednesday. Jerry Kaganak had the hot hand for the Eagles, scoring 18. Avery M. had 11 for the Comets. The Lady Eagles did better the next day, but were outscored by the Lady Comets, 43-31. Haley Ulroan had 15 for the Chevak, and Weslyn Rivers had 10 for Scammon Bay. Chevak also hosted the Hooper Bay Warriors on Sunday, March 14th.
