Carol Ann Peters was born on July 14, 1956 to Catherine Peters and Kenneth Dahl in Tanana, Alaska. Shortly after, her mother Catherine permanently settled in Bethel with her family, including Carol. Carol grew up with her sister, Sharon and her brother Jim. Carol had many friends and a quiet, friendly demeanor.
Carol attended Kilbuck School in Bethel and later graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic High School where she was also a cheerleader. Carol attended Seattle University for a period of time before returning to Bethel where she worked for the Yukon Kuskokwim Health Corporation as a telephone operator and medical records technician.
In 1981, Carol met and married Charles Lonewolf, Sr. whom she shared two children with, Tsatoke and Dalarie. After Carol and Charles separated, in 1984 Carol began her career at the Yukon Kuskokwim Correctional Center where she worked for thirty years until retirement in 2014. She was the sole provider for her children and gave them every opportunity that she could afford.
She moved to Washington State briefly and then moved to Anchorage where she remained for the rest of her life. Carol was known for being kind, humble, generous, dependable, friendly and hard-working. She was a self-less giver. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, berry picking, cutting fish, visiting with her Yukon relatives, knitting, Native food, shopping, keeping up with her besties, watching the Golden Girls, and attending Catholic services.
Carol also enjoyed road trips, pow-wows, vacations with her family and visiting her many friends. Carol was especially fond of traveling to different villages and learning their different cultures. Carol’s kindness, warmth, and sense of humor touched everyone she met. She always made family her priority and was a devoted mother who helped raise her granddaughter. Her legacy of love and generosity will be remembered by all who knew her.
Carol will be dearly missed her children, Dalarie (Ryan), Tsatoke, and stepchildren Quanah, Andrew, Tonchee, Charles Jr., Delios, Keshena, Tylene, and Remy. She will also be missed by many others including: her six grandchildren who called her “Noni,” (Shelby, Keygan, Brodie, Ashlynn, Maximos, and Legacy) and numerous step-grandchildren.
Carol is survived by her brother Jim Peters of Bethel and sister Lori (John) Svendgard of Portland, Oregon. She is preceded in death by her mother Catherine Peters, father Ken Dahl, sister Sharon Peters Whatley, grandparents Angela Johnson Peters and George Peters, Bertha Stevens, and Olivia Johnson, and grandson Dion Lonewolf.
She maintained special relationships with her best friends who were a large part of her life, especially her best friend Arlene “Shuntie” Rost who has been her best friend for as long as she can remember. We find solace in the fact that Carol had a solid relationship with Jesus and her spirit will return to the Lord in glory.
