The office of the Alaska State Fire Marshal wants to remind you that a candle is an open flame so keep them at least 12 inches away from anything that burns, never leave them unattended and blow candles out before you leave the room or go to bed. Never leave a child alone with a burning candle and always have working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.

Alaska House Majority Coalition Leadership Calls on Rep. Dean Westlake to Resign
Speaker of the House Bryce Edgmon (D-Dillingham), on behalf of House Leadership, released the following statement in response to new allegations of sexual harassment by Representative Dean Westlake (D-Kiana).
We take very seriously our obligation to ensure everyone who works in the Capitol feels safe and respected. Members of the Alaska House Majority Coalition Leadership understand that it is difficult for victims to speak out, especially against elected officials in a position of power and commend anyone who has been mistreated for coming forward; they are owed justice and respect. In light of recent reports of inappropriate behavior related to his position in the Legislature, House Leadership believes Representative Dean Westlake should resign from the office his constituents sent him to Juneau to represent. This is an extremely difficult decision to make, but it is a necessary decision.

Sen. Sullivan congratulates Congressman Young on Becoming Dean of the House and Tax/ANWR Conferee
To my fellow Alaskans, I wanted to highlight what an important day it is today (Dec. 5th) for Congressman Don Young – the Congressman for all Alaska. You know he’s a great partner. Senator Murkowski and I work super closely with him. As a matter of fact, I was on the phone with him this morning already discussing strategy for our state and how to get big things done for our state. But what was announced today was two things – the Speaker of the House announced that Congressman Young is going to be on the Conference Committee for the tax reform bill that we passed in the Senate last week. As many Alaskans, most Alaskans know, that also has a provision to open the coastal plain of ANWR – something we’ve been trying to do for over 40 years. I know Don Young is going to protect that provision in the Senate and make sure the Conference report has a strong ANWR provision. He was also named, and became today, the Dean of the House – the longest serving member of the House. 45 years representing Alaska and serving our great nation. So to Congressman Young, great job! We know you’re doing such outstanding work for our state and our country. Here’s to more great success.

Religious liberty and freedom had it’s day in court today.
The nine Justices of the Supreme Court have heard the case of Masterpiece Cakeshop, Ltd. v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission – what many are calling the Roe v. Wade of religious freedom, right of conscience and one’s ability to live and operate a business according to your sincere beliefs in a pluralistic world.
You can watch this and other videos from this important morning at our ally Alliance Defending Freedom’s Facebook page!
We likely will not know the Court’s ruling until late spring or early summer.
At Alaska Family Action, we stand with Jack Phillips and artists and business owners like him, and you can count on us to remain vigilant for years to come! That vigilance includes advocating in Juneau in January to promote and defend the right of all to live and work according to their faith.
The generosity of Alaskan families, churches, and individuals ensures that AFA is able to continue to advocate for the religious freedom of business owners, families, and churches!
On this momentous day, would you consider a gift in support to ensure that we are able to continue to stand up and speak out on behalf of religious freedom?
We are called to be an unwavering advocate so that Alaskan families – like yours! – can thrive! May the Lord bless you this Christmas season.
Standing for families…in His name.
