Calista Public Advocacy and Engagement Committee endorses candidates with a primary focus on developing businesses and infrastructure in the Yukon Kuskokwim Region.
The non-partisan Calista Public Advocacy and Engagement Committee (PAEC) made its first candidate endorsements for the 2018 general election. The PAEC provided a set of questions to candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives seat, as well as Alaskan gubernatorial, Senate District S, and House Districts 38 and 39.
“The PAEC members focused on key issues for the Yukon Kuskokwim Delta,” said Robert Beans, Chair. “These issues included support of the proposed Donlin Gold project, opposition against Ballot Measure 1, public safety, support for the Power Cost Equalization program, ANWR ANCSA revenue sharing, education funding and more. These areas are of primary importance for two of the most socio-economically challenged and distressed census districts in the nation.”
The endorsed candidates are:
*U.S. House of Representatives, Alaska: Don Young
*Alaska Governor and Lieutenant Governor: Bill Walker and Byron Mallott
*Alaska Senate District S: Lyman Hoffman (running unopposed)
*Alaska House District 38: Darren Deacon
*Alaska House District 39: Neal Foster (running unopposed)
The PAEC members will share these decisions throughout the YK region using grassroots efforts. The committee members will also encourage eligible voters to register, and for all registered voters to vote this November.
Committee members are Dora C. Moore, Fred Phillip, Robert Beans, Willie Kasayulie, Earl Samuelson, Johnny Evan, Andrew Guy and Thom Leonard.
