Calista Corporation PAEC endorses Jimmie, others for General Election

Calista Public Advocacy and Engagement Committee reconfirms support for Peltola.

Calista (cha-LIS-tah) Corporation’s Public Advocacy and Engagement Committee (PAEC) has endorsed 2024 General Election candidates Nellie Jimmie for Alaska House District 38, Bryce Edgmon for District 37, Neal Foster for District 39, and Donny Olson for Alaska Senate District T. During its September 3 meeting, the PAEC also reconfirmed its endorsement of U.S. Rep. Mary Peltola for the U.S. House of Representatives.

• Jimmie is a resident of Toksook Bay. She is a mom, lives a subsistence lifestyle, and is currently an elected board member of the Alaska Village Electric Cooperative (AVEC). Her lifelong experience living in rural Alaska will provide an important voice to the Alaska Legislature. Jimmie is a Calista Shareholder.

• Running for reelection to the Alaska Legislature are Edgmon, Foster and Olson.

• Peltola is running for reelection to the U.S. House of Representatives. She is a Calista Shareholder who was raised in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Region.

“Rural Alaska needs voices that understand the unique challenges our villages face, particularly disastrous fish runs and absent or aging infrastructure,” said PAEC Chair Willie Kasayulie.

The PAEC was founded in 2017, and it is currently made up of three Calista Board of Directors members, two Calista executives and two at-large Shareholder community members.

The PAEC regional priorities and its criteria for endorsing candidates are listed at www.calistacorp.com/shareholders/paec/. They include restoring salmon runs in the Yukon and Kuskokwim rivers and ending closures of Y-K subsistence and commercial fisheries for king and chum salmon; bringing basic infrastructure to the Region; supporting the Yukon-Kuskokwim Regional Tribal Government; and sustainable natural resource development in the Region.
