October 31, 2024: Last weekend coach Wheeler put together a “new” volleyball team, a mix of some varsity and some JV players, and brought them to Hooper Bay. The “new” team that traveled was: Julia, Cadence, Maia, Jayna, Thea, Maia, Madalyn, and Brianna. They did this so they could practice being a team for next year when all the seniors are gone.
They played against Chevak and Hooper Bay. They lost the first game against Chevak but got right back up winning the next game against Hooper Bay. The next two games were against Chevak and Hooper Bay and they won those also.
Brianna Fredericks said, “I think we did great. We did really well at getting back to the other side of the court and winning the games. We won all of our games except for the first one because we needed to get our serves over. I can improve on trying to spike it more next time. Chevak had some pretty good serves, and that’s how they got some of their points, but we ended up winning anyway.”
The team was supposed to come back Saturday, but they got stuck there for a night. So they planned to come back Sunday morning, but only 3 students could make it on the plane. They all eventually made it back Monday afternoon.
Cadence Evon said, “I think we did pretty well for our last couple of games, but we still have a lot of learning to do especially for next year since that is our team so we just need to practice.”
Their next games are in Anchorage and they will play Colony JV, Redington, and Houston. They are so close to Regions! This is the last tournament they’ll play until regions in Kotzebue.
