BRHS teams shine at Tsalteshi Invitational

The Bethel Regional High School boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams both turned in solid outings 2 weekends ago at the Tsalteshi Invitational. The meet was held Aug. 18 at Skyview Middle School in Soldotna.
Landon Smith and Thomas Phelan guided the Warriors to 16th in the team boys’ team standings. Bethel, which had seven runners participate in the 5-kilometer race, amassed 452 points in the event.
A freshman, Smith paced Bethel’s outing by finishing 83rd in the standings. He completed the race in a time of 18 minutes, 53 seconds.
Phelan, one of six BRHS underclassmen running in the race, was 85th, checking in one second after Smith.
Lawrence Poe, the only senior competing for the Warriors, and Jamin Crow both turned in solid outings. Poe clocked a time of 19:18 and finished 92nd. Crow checked in at No. 93 with a mark of 19:19.
Gary Poe also finished in the top 100 spots. He was 99th at 19:39.
Sophomore Joshua Putikka and freshman Peter Crow were 103rd and 107th, respectively.
Santiago Prosser of Dimond High School won the boys event with a time of 15:45.
Fiona Phelan, Lindsey Beans-Polk and Beth Hensley all legged out top 100 finishes in the girls’ division and powered Bethel to 15th in the team standings. The BRHS girls finished with 466 points.
Phelan led all Lady Warriors to the finish line, taking 85th at 23:48. Beans-Polk and Hensley were 97th and No. 11, respectively. Beans-Polk recorded a time of 24:57. Hensley was 100th at 26:11.
Cadence Cedars, Alqaq Small, Gabrielle Fredericks and Julian Stanley also participated in the contest.
South Anchorage’s Ava Earl won first place for the girls, her time was 18:37.
