The Bethel Wrestling Club would like to thank all of those that pledged some of our wrestlers in our Push Up fundraiser and to the following sponsors for their generous support in order to transport, house and feed all of our wrestlers that competed at the State tournament in Wasilla:

Prime Sponsor: Donlin Gold

Platinum Sponsor: Crowley Services

Gold Sponsor: Bethel Volunteer Firefighters Association

Gold Sponsor: Tunista Inc.

Silver Sponsor: Bethel Native Corporation

Silver Sponsor: Nicholson’ s Auto

Silver Sponsor: Stan Davis

We’d like to thank all of our volunteer coaches that put in their time to teach and coach our 122 wrestlers we had this season:

Darren Lieb, Thor Williams, Marty Smith, Zach Pleasant, Daryl Smith & Kris Nicholson. A very special thank you to Regina Lieb for her countless hours of keeping up with paperwork galore and making sure everything is taken care of.

I’d like to finish off by saying that Bethel Wrestling capped off an incredible year of wrestling. We became the winningest program in Alaska at the 3A level by winning our 7th State Championship in December, Hayden Lieb was voted Outstanding Wrestler of the State Tournament.

We ended the season with 3 wrestlers ranked in the top 30 of their respective weight classes: Senior Tristen Evan (120 lbs.) ranked 26th in the country. Junior Thomas Dyment (106 lbs.) ranked 12th in the country. Junior Avery Hoffman (113 lbs.) was given a Special Mention. And Freshman Hayden Lieb (132 lbs.) was ranked 20th overall in the Sophomore/Freshman classes and was 7th overall in the Freshman class. He was also the first Bethel Regional High School All-American wrestler winning 5th place at the NHSCA National Tournament in Virginia Beach, VA in March.

Senior Tristen Evan was also voted the 2017 Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award winner for the State of Alaska. He didn’t win the West Region honor to be considered for the National Award winner, but we are still proud to have him selected out of Alaska.

Great stuff. Thank you!
