The Bethel Warrior varsity boys hosted the Barrow Whalers of Utqiagvik, Alaska at the WarriorDome on Friday night, January 28th, 2022 and Saturday, Jan. 29th. Bethel Lady Warriors JV team hosted the Kalskag Lady Grizzlies and the Bethel Warriors JV team hosted the Kalskag boys JV team.
It was a close contest between the Warriors and the Whalers throughout the entire game on Friday keeping fans on their feet. The Whalers were behind in the fourth but managed to come back to win the game by 3 points. The scoreboard was as follows: 1st quarter Bethel 13 – Barrow 14, 2nd quarter Bethel 27 – Barrow 26, 3rd quarter Bethel 40 – Barrow 35, final Bethel 47 – Barrow 50. Game 2 on Saturday was won by the Whalers, final score 63-54. End of first quarter score was 18-16 with Barrow in the lead. At the end of the first half Bethel was ahead 33-26. The Warriors also led 45-38 at the end of the 3rd quarter.
The Bethel Lady JV Warriors defeated the Kalskag Lady Grizzlies 45-30 on Saturday. The Bethel boys also won their contest with Kalskag 44-36. On Friday night the Warrior boys JV team won against the Kalskag JV team 61-13. The Bethel Lady Warriors JV team also won their game vs Kalskag 54-31.
The games were posted live online and KYUK Radio also provided live broadcasts with commentators this weekend. On Friday night, Bethel Regional High School honored their senior boys basketball players for Senior Night for their last home games.
