Bethel Warriors dominate on homecourt vs. Kotzebue

The Bethel Regional High School Warriors boys team hosted their 3A Western Conference counterparts this past weekend – the Kotzebue Huskies at the WarriorDome while the varsity girls team traveled to Kotzebue.

Junior high teams also played this weekend featuring Grace Christian, St. Mary’s, Bethel, and Kwethluk.

On Friday, the Bethel Warrior boys, coached by Coach Eric Jung, won 63-53. Ethan Wheeler led BRHS with 22 points. Also contributing were Madden Cockroft with 15, Jackson Iverson with 12, Mason Berlin with 8, and Kenneth Fox 6.

Also on the roster for the Warriors were George Lee, Keegan Thompson, and Kemuel Latham.

At the end of the first quarter Kotzebue led 18-16. The Warriors picked up their game and scored 21 in the second quarter. The score at the end of the first half was 37-33 with the home team in the lead.

Bethel continued to dominate and finished the game 63-53.

Kotzebue’s Ayden Wesley and Uriel Zuniga both scored 16 for the Huskies – with 4 successful three pointers and some freethrows. John Tikik made 14 and Jaxen Williamson and Anthony Lambert scored 4 and 3, respectively.

Also playing for Kotzebue were Andrew Green, Benjamin Marcus, Keilan Schaeffer, and Percy Nelson. They are coached by Coach Henry Sheldon.

On Saturday, the Warriors blew up the scoreboard and won again 97-40. Iverson sunk six 3 pointers during the game, he shot 28 points. Cockroft and Berlin both made 18, Wheeler sunk 14, and Fox had 12. Also contributing were Latham and Thompson with 5 and 3.

Bethel had a tremendous first quarter, outscoring the Huskies 34-10. They continued their barrage into the second quarter finishing the first half 49-20.

Lambert scored 16 for Kotzebue. His teammates Wesley and Zuniga both made 10 points. Williamson and Schaeffer both scored buckets.

The Bethel Lady Warriors came away with 2 wins in Kotzebue. The Huskies hometeam recognized the senior girls during their senior night. The Lady Warriors will be playing in Nome this weekend before regionals.
