Bethel Warriors battle Nome Nanooks

The Bethel Warriors boys varsity team hosted their 3A western conference counterparts this past weekend – the Nome Nanooks at the WarriorDome. These were the last regular season games for the Warriors.

On Friday night, the Nome Nanooks won 62-38. The 2022 3A state champions outscored the Warriors 33-13 at the half. Warrior captain Matthew Fredericks scored 11, his teammate Greg Turner sunk 10.

Co-captains Jade Green and Finn Greg led their team with 19 and 10, their teammate Richard Cross scored 16.

Seniors on the Warrior team were honored with a Senior Night Ceremony.

On Saturday, the Nanooks won again 61-35

Finn Greg, Jade Green, and Richard Cross led the scoring for Nome 19, 18, and 14. They led at the half 29-23.

Greg Turner sank 13 for the Warriors, Matthew Fredericks scored 9.

The Lady Warriors also lost both games to Nome at the Nome-Beltz High School, 33-30 on Friday and 52-43 on Saturday. The Lady Warrior JV team won their first game on Friday, defeating Nome 24-23. On Saturday they lost in a close game, 27-23.

Next up for Warrior basketball is the 3A Western Conference Regional Tournament to be hosted by the Warriors here in Bethel, March 9-11, 2023. Teams from Barrow, Kotzebue, and Nome will be joining Bethel to vy for the 2 berths to the State Championship finals in Anchorage scheduled for March 22-25, 2023.
