The Bethel Warriors wrestling team traveled to Fairbanks for their next competition – The Battle In The Interior (BITI). Teams competed in dual team format. Boys Teams included: Delta, Lathrop, North Pole, West Valley, Palmer, South, Bethel, Wasilla, and SWDP. The Girls Teams included Lathrop, North Pole, Palmer, and Bethel.
Isabel Lieb of the Bethel Lady Warriors was voted the Outstanding Wrestler in her weight class, 138 lb.
Wrestlers for the Bethel Boys team included Alvino Vasquez, Sheldon Smith, Paul Dyment, Aaron Mute, Aiden Klein, Patricio Vasquez, Ignatius Hunter, Ellis Johnson, Zahcory Jacobs-McDonald, and Shawn McIntyre.
In the Duals vs. Delta – Alvino Vasquez, Smith, Dyment, Mute, Patricio Vasquez, Hunter, Johnson, and Jacob-McDonald all scored victories against their opponents.
Smith, Dyment, Mute, McIntyre, and Patricio Vasquez won their matches in the North Pole Patriots duals.
In the matches vs. West Valley – Dyment, Hunter, Alvino Vasquez, and Smith beat their opponents. The next duals were with the Student Wrestling Development Program team. Jacobs-McDonald and Dyment won victories.
Lathrop vs. Bethel duals – Smith, Dyment, and Johnson secured wins in their matches. In the duals with Palmer – Dyment won the lone victory for the Bethel Warriors. South Anchorage duals vs. the Warriors were won by South. Wasilla met Bethel on the mat and Johnson was victorious for the Warriors.
“It was a tough one for them, but lots of learning as well,” said Coach Darren Lieb of the Warriors.
On the girls side, team members included Constance Albert, Emilie Madson, Lacey Samuelson, Jordan Klejka, Hannah Howell, Briella Herron, Isabel Lieb, and Payton Boney.
Albert, Samuelson, Lieb, and Boney all won their matches vs. the North Pole Lady Patriots. In their duals vs. Lathrop – Howell, Herron, Lieb, and Albert were victorious. Samuelson, Klejka, Howell, Herron, Lieb, Boney, and Albert won in their matches with West Valley.
In the duals with Palmer – Lieb, Albert, Madson, Samuelson, and Klejka took victories. Next it was the Bethel Lady Warriors vs. the Outlaws (various wrestlers from different teams). Klejka, Howell, Herron, Lieb, and Boney won their matches. Lieb and Howell won twice.
The Bethel Lady Warriors wrestling team won 3rd Place overall.
