Anchorage Christian Schools hosted the Denali Auto Glass Wrestling Invite this past weekend in Anchorage. The Bethel Warrior wrestling team competed in the event. The girls team placed 7th in a field of 32 and the Bethel boys placed third out of 28.
For the girls, senior Fiona Phelan placed second in the 130 lb. division. Payton Boney also made it to the podium, taking fourth place in her 135 lb. weight division.
Also competing for the Lady Warriors was Emilie Madson (103), Cadence Cedars (112), Jordan Klejka (119), and Briella Herron (125).
For the boys, two wrestlers won gold medals – 119 lb. weight division wrestler Landon Smith and 130 lb. division wrestler Joseph Smith.
Liam Phelan took home a bronze in the 103 weight class. Finishing in the fourth spot were Sheldon Smith (112), Paul Dyment (125), and Aaron Mute (130). Taking 5th in his division (135 lbs.) was Shawn McIntyre. Also wrestling for BRHS were Alvino Vasquez (112), Ellis Johnson (152), Mason Fitka (171), Patricio Vasquez (171), and Cyrus Anaruk (189).
Up next for the Warrior Wrestlers will be the 2021 Bethel Invitational. We will be hosting duals on Thursday, November 11th with Kodiak, Lathrop and South Anchorage.
6:30 pm: Bethel vs. Lathrop and South vs. Kodiak; 7:30 pm: Bethel vs. Kodiak and South vs. Lathrop. The Individual tournament will start at 9 am on Friday and conclude sometime Saturday afternoon.
