Bethel PD to upgrade to new tasers and body cams

The Bethel City Council approved a request that would allow the Bethel Police Department to upgrade their tasers and body cameras to the most current model of the Axon TASER weapons and cameras. Bethel PD is a current user of the older models of Axon tasers and camera systems.

The request was approved during the council’s April 27th, 21 regular meeting. The item was brought forth by City Manager Pete Williams.

“Our software, instructor certification, individual training, and years of combined organizational experience is based on Axon TASER systems,” states Action Memorandum 21-08. “Purchase will equip the department for several years with replacements for damaged units or staffing growth.”

The upgraded tasers are better able to work through winter clothing and would allow the department to standardize to the one model. The new equipment would also allow the use of current supporting hardware, software, and certifications already in place, says AM 21-08.

The total cost for the upgrades is $58,112. The item passed unanimously.
