The Bethel Sandpit cross country race has its champions – Claire Dyment, a freshman from Bethel and Ned Peters, a senior also of Bethel. The Sandpit race took place this past Saturday at the Big Pit, the traditional route is currently under water.
Dyment finished the course in 24:07. Her teammate Kyana Harpak, a senior, took second place with a time of 25:44. Hooper Bay’s Ariana Tall-Lake placed third, she finished the course in 26:56.
On the boys’ side, Ned Peters ran the double-loop course in 18:41. His teammate Jackson Iverson of Bethel, a sophomore, took second with a time of 19:09. Freshman Cole Iverson brother to Jackson, also of Bethel, placed third, he crossed the finish line in 19:11.
Teams from Akiachak, Akula, Alakanuk, Eek, Emmonak, Chevak, Hooper Bay, Kotlik, Kwethluk, Mountain Village, Pilot Station, Russian Mission, Scammon Bay, and Tuluksak joined the Warrior host team for this event.
