Bethel girls grind out win over Nome

The Bethel Regional High School Lady Warriors picked up a huge victory over the Nome-Beltz Lady Nanooks this past weekend, claiming a thrilling 3-1 decision.
With the victory, Bethel dealt Nome its first conference loss of the season. Nome fell to 8-1 in Western Conference play. Bethel improved to 6-12.
Madisen Smith helped the Lady Warriors get off to a quick start against Nome. Smith pounded out eight service points en route to guiding the Lady Warriors to a 25-18 win in Game 1.
Brianna Evan and Angeline Alexie picked up the pace in Game 2. Evan scored six points in the frame, while Alexie added five more and paced the BRHS girls to a 25-22 victory and a 2-0 lead.
Nome roared back in the third game, taking a 25-17 decision.
Bethel finished off the win in Game 4 by racing to a 25-20 decision. Andrea Lee led the BRHS girls to the win by scoring nine points. Smith and Evan added eight and four points, respectively.
Also playing during the Slamtastic Tournament hosted at BRHS this past weekend were teams from Hooper Bay, Scammon Bay, Chevak, and Kotzebue.
