Bethel Fire Department Calls for week ending 

December 20

• New staff and volunteers are receiving continuous Driver/Operator training on the handling characteristics, operation of specialty equipment, care, maintenance, and safety of the department’s ambulances and fire apparatus.

• Staff have completed several online training modules covering various topics of firefighting, emergency medical, fire inspection, and fire prevention.

• Staff have conducted several drills on firefighting and EMS knowledge and skills during each shift.

• Staff have instructed AHA Basic Life Support Provider courses for the new volunteer EMT recruits and for members of the public.

• The EMT-1 course started on November 12. Recruits have received instruction in several EMS topics.

• On 12/06/2022 at 7:00 p.m. an EMT Meeting was held at the fire station. Responders reviewed airway management techniques and conducted skill drills.

• No Fire Meetings were held during the month of December 2022.

• Between 12/01/2022 and 12/31/2022, the Bethel Fire Department responded to 93 EMS and 24 Fire incidents.

• On 12/04/2022 at 9:04 a.m., firefighters responded to a report of a structural collapse. Upon arrival, firefighters observed a home that fell off its foundation. After securing the scene and confirming all occupants were accounted for, firefighters cleared the scene.

• On 12/17/2022 at 7:33 a.m. medics responded to a report of a person who was not breathing. Upon arrival, medics initiated resuscitation efforts, but were unsuccessful. The individual was pronounced dead at the scene.

• On 12/17/2022 at 10:02 a.m. firefighters responded to Sixth Avenue for the report of a structure fire. Upon arrival, firefighters observed heavy smoke and flames emitting from the front entry of a home. Firefighters deployed hose lines and extinguished the fire, then checked for fire extension. The fire was determined to be unintentional and caused by unattended cooking.

• On 12/20/2022 at 1:56 p.m. firefighters responded to Willow Street for the report of a structure fire. Upon arrival, firefighters observed heavy smoke and fire emitting from the underside of the building. Firefighters deployed hose lines and extinguished the fire, then checked for fire extension. The fire was determined to be unintentional and caused by an unattended heater on a sewer line.

• On 12/20/2022 at 5:57 p.m. firefighters responded to Larsen Subdivision for the report of a vehicle fire. Upon arrival, firefighters observed a City of Bethel Sewer Truck well involved in fire. Firefighters deployed hose lines and extinguished the fire, then checked for fire extension. The fire cause is under investigation.
