Bethel Fire Department Calls for week ending 

February 28

• Between 02/01/2023 and 02/28/2023, the Bethel Fire Department responded to 86 EMS and 11 Fire incidents.

• On 02/05/2023 at 1:58 p.m., medics responded to Chief Eddie Hoffman Highway for the report of a person who was unresponsive and not breathing. Upon arrival, it was determined that this individual was deceased. The scene was turned over to the Bethel Police Department for a death investigation.

• On 02/08/2023 at 10:48 p.m., firefighters responded to Seventh Avenue for the report of a sewer tank on fire. Upon arrival, firefighters extinguished the fire with water and a portable fire extinguisher. The fire cause was unintentional.

• On 02/11/2023 at 10:58 p.m., medics responded to Tundra Ridge for the report of a person who was unresponsive and not breathing. Upon arrival, it was determined that this individual was deceased. The scene was turned over to the Bethel Police Department for a death investigation.

• On 02/26/2023 at 11:36 p.m., firefighters responded to Atsaq Street for the report of a dryer fire. Upon arrival, firefighters found the fire was already extinguished. The fire cause was unintentional. The fire department wants to remind the public to ensure you clean out the lint trap in clothes dryers frequently to avoid a buildup of flammable materials.

• On 02/27/2023 at 9:58 a.m., firefighters responded to Mallard Lane for the report of a vehicle fire. Upon arrival, firefighters observed a vehicle fully involved in fire and deployed hose lines. The fire was extinguished. The fire was caused by an electrical malfunction.

• On 02/27/2023 at 5:09 p.m., medics responded to Kasayuli Subdivision for the report of a person who was unresponsive and not breathing. Upon arrival, it was determined that this individual was deceased. The scene was turned over to the Bethel Police Department for a death investigation.

• New staff and volunteers are receiving continuous Driver/Operator training on the handling characteristics, operation of specialty equipment, care, maintenance, and safety of the department’s ambulances and fire apparatus.

• Staff have completed several online, classroom, and skill drill training covering various topics of firefighting, emergency medical, fire inspection, and fire prevention.

• Staff have conducted several drills on firefighting and EMS knowledge and skills during each shift.

• Staff completed online sexual harassment training.

• Staff have instructed AHA Basic Life Support Provider courses for the new volunteer EMT recruits and for members of the public.
