Bethel Community Services Foundation has three scholarships open for the Fall 2025 semester with deadlines coming up in May.
The Mary Ciuniq Pete Legacy Scholarship and the John Active Memorial Scholarship will receive applications until 5 pm on May 21. The Bethel Registered Nurse Education Scholarship will receive applications until 5 pm on May 28.
The Mary C. Pete Legacy Scholarship was created to honor the legacy of late KuC director Mary Ciuniq Pete. As the director of KuC and a leader in many other arenas, Mary was a fierce advocate for high-quality education, a healthy and thriving environment, and the safety of women and girls in Bethel and across Western Alaska. Three scholarships of $1,350 each may be awarded for the fall semester.
The John Active Memorial Scholarship was created to honor the legacy of Aqumgaciq John Active, a pioneer in native media and a passionate advocate of Yup’ik language and culture. It created in partnership with local public broadcasting station, KYUK. One scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded for the fall semester.
The Bethel Registered Nurse Education Scholarship was newly launched in 2025. This scholarship was created by donor John H. Fournelle in honor of the lives of his parents, who lived in Alaska. His mother was a registered nurse and his father was a bacteriologist who studied enteric diseases in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta. This scholarship will make one $1,000 award to a student enrolled in the Kuskokwim Campus-based cohort of the UAA Associate of Applied Science in Nursing program.
Eligibility criteria varies for each scholarship. That criteria and the applications can be found at BCSF’s website, which is bcsfoundation.org, or by calling the BCSF office at 907-545-6052.
