Hearings on Ballot Measure 1 have been taking place all over Alaska. This is an opportunity for Alaskans to hear from each other and the Ballot Measure 1 sponsors about why they are voting YES on 1 this November. There is a hearing scheduled for Bethel on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 starting at 2pm at the Yupiit Piciryarait Cultural Center. Testimony sign-ups start at 1:30pm.

Nine public meetings will be held statewide for the ballot initiative ahead of Nov. 6 election. The hearings are open to public comments from Alaskans and provide you with an opportunity to speak up about why salmon is important to you.

In May of last year, three Alaskans who lead the group Stand for Salmon submitted an application for a ballot initiative that would propose similar updates to the state’s outdated salmon habitat protection laws. The initiative was certified with nearly 42,000 signatures verified from all 40 legislative districts, the first time in at least 15 years that a ballot initiative surpassed the minimum signatures required in every district. A statewide teleconference hearing is set for Sat., Oct. 13 at 1 p.m.
