Alaska Village Electric Cooperative announces lineman Leland Rogers earned Journeyman Lineman status and electrical engineer Aimee Chase earned her P.E. (Professional Engineer) license.
Rogers, hired in June 2010, first passed the Merchant Apprenticeship program that included 2,000 lineman working hours per year. The state requires 8,000 lineman hours in order to take the Lineman Journeyman test with all hours being notarized. Leland successfully passed the comprehensive exam.
Chase was hired as an electrical engineer in January 2014. The requirements to qualify to take the P.E. test are: having a 4-year Bachelor of Science Engineering degree, taking an engineering fundamentals exam after graduating, working as an engineer a minimum of four years, and getting recommendations from other P.E.s The intensive exam lasts 6-8 hours and can require months of studying. Chase passed the exam on her first attempt.
AVEC now has five P.E.s and six Journeyman Linemen. Rogers works out of AVEC’s Bethel office while Chase works at the Anchorage headquarters.
