The Alaska Schools Activities Association board of directors (ASAA) voted unanimously to table the Hate Speech and Harassment Policy during their February 22-23, 2021 board meeting. The decision was “to table the item until more information and a thorough review can be provided to the Board.” The motion was made by AASA and seconded by Region 1 and was passed unanimously. Direction was given to the ASAA staff to provide more information as to the need of the policy, how 2nd and 3rd offenses would be handled, other educational course requirement options, how the NFHS rulebooks already deal with the issue, an appeal process to assure due process, pre-season educational component, and the system for schools to report violations.
