The Alaska State Troopers received a report on October 16, 2021, at approximately 1500 hours, that a teacher in Akiachak had sexually abused a juvenile. Troopers responded to Akiachak and investigated the allegations. Upon further investigation, it was determined that 48-year-old Akiachak resident John Hammonds had sexually abused a juvenile in August. Hammonds was arrested without incident and remanded to YKCC on four counts of sexual abuse of a minor on the first degree and four counts of sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree.
