Dear Congresswoman Peltola,
You did not lose the election, we Alaska Native voters lost the election for you, simply we did not show up and vote! Alaska Native voter just sizzled and withered away! We Alaska Native Voters took for granted you would win!
By all rights the 2024 Alaska Federation of Natives convention delegates endorsed your candidacy for reelection, but our Native Delegates from the convention just did translate that endorsement in our communities and humbly should have asked our Native brothers and sisters to go out and vote.
Our Alaska Native Leadership massive powerful voices did not take the time to take discuss your successes to the social media and airwaves that you championed for our communities? Straightforwardly we just depended on you to explain all that by yourself! We merely failed you!
You represented all of Alaska at your best in all you did for energy projects, salmon protection, maritime and port projects, oil and gas development, resource development, broadband/fiber optics for all Alaska, military funding, social security, and the list goes on and on.
In three years as a freshman, you delivered more congressional funds and federal services to Alaska than any other U.S. House of Representative. That will be very difficult act to follow.
I hear bundle of excuses from my Native brothers and sisters, and relatives across the state that they did not have the time to go out and vote.
As an Alaska Native voter I am sorry the November 2024 election had the lowest Alaska Native voter turnout in our communities than any Presidential election year. I apologize for not turning out for you! Am I an endangered Alaska Native voter? I hope not. Please take the time to rest and rethink your future, you can comeback, maybe we will turnout for you next time around.

Exit polling shows Alaskans found Ranked Choice Voting simple
Exit polling conducted by Alaskans for Better Elections and FairVote showed that most Alaskans found Ranked Choice Voting to be simple and a growing number show support for a main benefit of the system – moving competitive races to the general election.
In the poll of 600 voters conducted on November 3-6:
● 84% of Alaskans reported Ranked Choice Voting to be “simple”
● 56% feel positively about the ability to have multiple candidates from the same party in the November general election.
“Alaskan voters are seeing the benefits of our election system,” said Juli Lucky, Executive Director of Alaskans for Better Elections. “Alaska’s election system gives every voter the freedom to vote for any candidate, regardless of party, and advances the most competitive candidates to the general election, where more voters participate. Especially in districts where elections were historically decided in the lower-turnout primary election, this gives more power and voice to a larger number of voters and ensures that our elected officials have earned broad support.”

Dear Fellow Alaskan,
Over the weekend, the Alaska Division of Elections certified the results of the 2024 General Election. The defeat of Ballot Measure 2 – and the victory for voter freedom in Alaska – is now official!
Thank YOU for your support, from the calls you made, to the doors you knocked, to the choice you made on your ballot. Because of you, all Alaskans will continue reaping the benefits of an election system that protects our ability to vote for any candidate in any election, regardless of party. Our power to shape our state’s future into a place future generations will be proud to call home is secure.
Due to the closeness of the race, the Alaska Republican Party has requested a recount, which is scheduled to begin today (December 3rd, 2024) and will be completed within 10 days. We are confident that the outcome will be upheld; Alaska’s election process is accurate and secure.
But let this be a reminder to us: Despite back-to-back wins for nonpartisan open primaries and ranked choice general elections in Alaska, the political elites who want power back for themselves are determined. To keep our hard-won reform in place, we’ll need to keep communicating with our friends and neighbors that Alaskans support this reform, why it is so important, and how it is producing results for Alaska.
