
The Kuskokwim 300 Race Committee hosted the Season Opener this past Sunday and winning first place was Raymond Alexie of Kwethluk. Coming in second place was Alexie’s dad Harry Alexie, also of Kwethluk. Third place finisher was Kenneth Snyder of Akiachak.
The 8-dog limit race was 32 miles starting at 11am from the Charles Lake in Bethel to Atmautluak and back. The race, originally set for Saturday, was moved to Sunday due to weather. Mushers began the race with a mass start.
Racers were awarded a piece of the $25,000 race purse that was split between the top 15 finishers. Seventeen teams participated in the event.
