Today (August 2nd, 2024), Representative Kevin McCabe voiced his support of Governor Dunleavy’s veto of HB29, his bill that sought to prohibit insurers from discriminating against individuals on the basis of their political affiliation or expression.
Although I am disappointed that HB29 did not pass, I commend the Governor for his sensible approach. As I stated in the early hours of May 16, 2024:
‘What we have done in the last thirty minutes is among the most disrespectful and terrible things I’ve ever seen done to our Constitution and to the State of Alaska residents … I am utterly astounded at the abject failure by the members of this body to follow the Constitution.’
I remain committed to upholding the principles of fairness and constitutional integrity in all legislative matters. Despite the setback with HB29, I will continue to advocate for policies that protect the rights and freedoms of Alaskans. Thank you for your support and engagement on this important issue.

NORAD detects, tracks and intercepts Russian and PRC aircraft operating in the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone
NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) detected, tracked, and intercepted two Russian TU-95 and two PRC H-6 military aircraft operating in the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) on July 24, 2024. NORAD fighter jets from the United States and Canada conducted the intercept.
The Russian and PRC aircraft remained in international airspace and did not enter American or Canadian sovereign airspace. This Russian and PRC activity in the Alaska ADIZ is not seen as a threat, and NORAD will continue to monitor competitor activity near North America and meet presence with presence.
An ADIZ begins where sovereign airspace ends and is a defined stretch of international airspace that requires the ready identification of all aircraft in the interest of national security.
NORAD is a unique bi-national command between the United States and Canada. NORAD employs a layered defense network of satellites, ground-based and airborne radars and fighter aircraft in seamless interoperability to detect and track aircraft and inform appropriate actions. NORAD remains ready to employ a number of response options in defense of North America.
