The Scammon Bay Eagles and Aniak Halfbreeds continue to hold down the top two spots in the Class 1A girls’ poll, according to the latest Alaska Association of Basketball Coaches’ poll. The poll is based on a survey of coaches throughout the state.

Scammon Bay easily held onto the top spot in the 1A poll. The Lady Eagles, who have won nine straight games since their loss to Class 3A Galena at the Ravn Invitational last month, are 18-2 for the season. The two-time defending state champions went 3-0 in games this past weekend in St. Mary’s.

Aniak, 11-5 overall, held onto second in the poll. Of the Lady Halfbreeds’ losses this season, four have come against Class 3A or Class 4A programs.

Nikolaevsk was ranked third in the Class 1A poll, finishing just ahead of King Cove and Teller.

In the Class 3A ranks, Bethel Regional High School rival Barrow remained the only Western Conference school to crack the rankings. The Barrow boys and girls are both penciled in at No. 5 in their respective divisions.

Unalaska and Klawock remained atop the boys’ Class 2A and Class 1A polls.
