Pinky’s Park Volunteer Day

by Michelle DeWitt

Everyone is invited to Pinky’s Park on Saturday, June 2 for a volunteer day. June 2 is National Trails Day and we can all celebrate by improving Pinky’s Park in preparation for a busy summer. Free hot dogs will be served from 12:30- 1pm next to the Log Cabin, followed by several activities designed to improve the condition of the park and reflect our community pride in our public spaces.
Trash clean-up, repairs inventory, tree pruning, removing growth from the edges of the boardwalk, and possibly even tree planting are a few of the planned tasks on the list of activities. The event will last until 3 pm. For people who might be interested in volunteering at the park on a longer-term basis, we will have sign-up forms for future conversations about a “Friends of Pinky’s Park” group to help the City of Bethel clean and maintain this large, 30-acre public space we are so fortunate to have at the center of our community.
This event is organized by a group of volunteers and community members with the support of local groups contributing items to use during the day, including Kuskokwim Backwater Approach, Bethel Community Services Foundation, 4-H, Jeanine Faulkner and the Lion’s Club.
We ask that you bring your own water bottle, hand tools and gloves if you have them (the more tools we have, the more people we can put to work!) and sunscreen. Some tools, trash bags and other materials will be provided. Please dress for the weather!
Michelle DeWitt is the Executive Director for the Bethel Community Services Foundation.
