BRHS’s Mellor honored with LKSD Teacher of the Year award

Lower Kuskokwim School is pleased to announce that Lynn Mellor has been selected as this year’s recipient for LKSD Teacher of the Year. Ms. Mellor has taught for over 13 years for the District, all at Bethel Regional High School. She is a very well respected teacher by her peers. She has served as a mentor for new teachers, and student teachers looking to enter the educational field. She has trained teachers during site in-services, both at BRHS and for the District. Lynn inspires her students do their best and challenges them to view subjects in different ways.

As a teacher she has taught high school language arts, creative writing, and advanced placement classes. She also serves as the sponsor of Bethel Regional High School’s Drama Club. Ms. Mellor also sets time aside to work with students that need extra help after school to get caught up on missed assignments. She works after school, donating her time and during spring break and summer school to offer students opportunities for credit recovery.

Ms. Mellor is the senior class sponsor at BRHS. She has donated many hours helping students write essays for college and career scholarships. She has served as co-chair for the student council and has also been the DC-Closeup advisor, which takes countless hours of fundraising for the trip to our nation’s capital and New York City, for educational tours.

It is Lynn Mellor’s countless hours in and out of the classroom, the dedication and tireless consideration for her students that exemplifies this year’s LKSD Teacher of the Year.
