“Brody”, a white Bichon and “Kimber”, a German Shorthaired Pointer took Best in Show honors at the 13th Annual fun and entertaining Bethel Dog Show on Sunday afternoon.

The crowd oohed and aahed and cheered and showed their appreciation with applause at the Yupiit Piciryarait Cultural Center.

The cute Bichon, owned by Roselyn Calinoff and shown by Randy Rexwinkle had tough competition in the Breed Division but came through with the winners trophy. Brody won the Toy Category before advancing to the final round.

A Bichon Fraise named Flynn also won Best in Show at the Westminster Dog Show earlier last week.

The very well-mannered Kimber, owned by Seaira Reno and shown by May May Cochrane also won the trophy for the Most Obedient.

Overall, 18 dogs participated.

The Breed categories included Working, Terrier, Herding, Non-Sporting, and Delta Mix. Volunteer judges for the Breed categories were Jen Peeks, the first female musher to win the Bogus Creek 150 sled dog race, and Jackie Klejka of the Bering Sea Animal Clinic.

Events in the Fun Categories included Best Tail Wagger, Best Vocal Performance, Most Adorable, the Olympic Trials Agility Course, Most Original Costume, Best Trick, and Most Obedient. Judging was provided by Christine Trudeau, Kelsey and Casey.

In the Agility Course event, Bootsie – a Terrier Mix owned by Kelly Lincoln won with a time of 13:40. In second was Brody the Bichon who posted a time of 19:03.

A record still stands for the agility course. It was set in 2017 by “Charlie”, a Boxer, owned by Regina Teresi who completed the course in 11.81 seconds. This is the fifth year for this event.

For the costume contest, entrants were dressed as a lion, a caped lady, a dog in a raincoat outfit, and even a spider.

Emcees for the dog show were Jeremy Osborne and his wife Katy Krings. Sponsors included the Yupiit Piciryarait Cultural Center, the Bethel Friends of Canines, the Old Friendly Dog Farm, and the Bering Sea Animal Clinic.

Winners were given trophies and blue and red ribbons for 1st and 2nd place.
